Topological sum

Suppose X is the topological sum of a collection of disjoint topological spaces {X_α}. Then each X_α is open in X, and the open sets in X are precisely the (disjoint) unions of subsets A_α⊆X_α open in X_α. Also, the original topology on X_α is the subspace topology of X on X_α.
